This week, the spotlights switch on for External Affairs Director and a pillar of the MENA business, Robert Naouss and his unique journey at a workplace that blends and fosters start-up and corporate mindsets in one!
1. How would you explain your job in RELX?
I support RELX Technology's product entry into MENA and European countries, which includes designing and driving the implementation of complex External Affairs policies in order to create a stable and positive business environment for RELX Technology's budding operations in the region.
2. What’s your favourite part of being RELXer?
The agile, flexible and fast-paced environment enables me to achieve my goals and meet colleagues from numerous backgrounds and different walks of life. It’s a unique experience that couples the start-up mindset with corporate standards in one culture.
3. What makes you most effective at work?
The autonomy and trust of superiors (and overall colleagues) provides me the space to deliver.
The people I work with (be it within the MENA & Europe teams, HQ, etc.) are trustworthy, respectful, personable, and most importantly supportive, which in turn makes for an enjoyable and thriving work experience.
4. What gets you through a long day at work?
Honestly speaking? Looking forward to the evening/night time where I just lie on the couch and watch some sci-fi series! But seriously now, days go by so quickly: between calls, work chats, presentations, and back-to-back emails, the day goes by before you know it. And that sense of fulfilment and satisfaction that I get at the end of each working day is what makes me look forward to the next one!
5. If you’re a RELX Pod Flavour, what would you be and why?
That would be Tangy Purple: it takes a bit of time to get used to, but once you do, there’s no going back.
6. What are your hobbies outside RELX?
Swimming, jogging, reading and following politics, and watching psychological and sci-fi thrillers!
7. If you were in a magazine or news article/feature tomorrow, what would the headline title be?
"RELX EA Lead Loses Bet and Has to Finally Show his Face on Camera in a Zoom Call!"
8. Are you a realist or an idealist?
Idealist, and a ‘dreamer’.
